Collection & Courier Services

AMBIENT SPECIMEN PREPARATION AND SHIPPING PROCEDURE

*Prior to specimen preparation and shipping, please refer to the 2007 IATA shipping regulations to determine if your shipment requires an additional specimen classification label.

  1. Specimens should be held ambient (room temperature, +18 to 26º C) prior to shipping, unless stated otherwise in specimen collection requirements.
  2. Complete test requisition, including top portion with client, patient and billing information and select ordered test(s).
  3. Place patient specimen container(s) in Esoterix green, ambient biohazard specimen bag along with an absorbent pad.
  4. Fold and place test requisition in the side pocket of the specimen bag.
  5. Roll specimen's biohazard bag around specimen and seal (allowing excess air to escape).
  6. Place specimen(s) between foam inserts inside cardboard box or Styrofoam cooler as appropriate. Close shipping box.
  7. Place cardboard shipping box in FedEx lab pack and seal closed.
  8. Fasten completed FedEx airbill on top of FedEx shipping bag. Specimens should be shipped Priority Overnight, Express or Next Day Air per individual shipper designations. Please contact Esoterix at 800-444-9111 option #3 for any specimen transportation questions you may have.
  9. Shipments can be received Monday through Saturday.
    - For all specimens shipped Friday to be received on Saturday, please remember to check Saturday Delivery on the FedEx airbill and place "Saturday Delivery" stickers on the FedEx shipping bag or cardboard shipping box.
  10. Contact 800-GO-FEDEX (463-3339) for FedEx pick ups. For any other arrangements, please contact Esoterix at 800-444-9111 option #3.


REFRIGERATED SPECIMEN PREPARATION AND SHIPPING PROCEDURE

*Prior to specimen preparation and shipping, please refer to the 2007 IATA shipping regulations to determine if your shipment requires an additional specimen classification label.
  1. Specimens must be held refrigerated (+2 to 8º C) prior to shipping, unless stated otherwise in specimen collection requirements.
  2. Complete test requisition, including top portion with client, patient and billing information and select ordered test(s).
  3. Place patient specimen container(s) in Esoterix gray, refrigerated biohazard specimen bag along with an absorbent pad.
  4. Fold and place test requisition in the side pocket of the specimen bag.
  5. Roll specimen's biohazard bag around specimen and seal (allowing excess air to escape).
  6. Place specimen(s) along with 1 cool pack per four specimens in between foam inserts in Styrofoam cooler.
  7. Place cardboard shipping box in FedEx Lab Pack and seal closed.
  8. Fasten completed FedEx airbill on top of cardboard shipping box . Specimens should be shipped Priority Overnight, Express or Next Day Air per individual shipper designations. Please contact Esoterix at 800-444-9111 option #3 for any specimen transportation questions you may have.

FROZEN SPECIMEN PREPARATION AND SHIPPING PROCEDURE

*Prior to specimen preparation and shipping, please refer to the 2007 IATA shipping regulations to determine if your shipment requires an additional specimen classification label.
  1. Specimens must be held frozen ( -20º C or colder ) prior to shipping, unless stated otherwise in specimen collection requirements.
  2. Complete test requisition, including top portion with client, patient and billing information and select ordered test(s).
  3. Place patient specimen container(s) in Esoterix blue, frozen biohazard specimen bag along with an absorbent pad.
  4. Fold and place test requisition in the side pocket of the specimen bag.
  5. Roll specimen's biohazard bag around specimen and seal (allowing excess air to escape).
  6. Place layer of dry ice at bottom of Styrofoam cooler insert. Do not touch dry ice with bare hands as it can burn the skin.
  7. Place specimen bag/s on top of dry ice. Cover specimen with additional dry ice and close Styrofoam cooler with lid (minimum 5 lbs. of dry ice per container recommended).
  8. Insert Styrofoam cooler into cardboard shipping box and seal top of cardboard box with sealing tape.
  9. Fasten completed FedEx airbill on top of cardboard shipping box . Specimens should be shipped Priority Overnight, Express or Next Day Air per individual shipper designations. Please contact Esoterix at 800-444-9111 option #3 for any specimen transportation questions you may have.
